My Next hip hop music
artists is a personal friend of mine, Curtis Stevens…… AKA “Cutty Currency”. Cutty was
born in Milwaukee Wisconsin and grew up in La Crosse Wisconsin.
He started rapping when he was 13. “My mother's friends where over and they
heard me and my lil bro upstairs in our room listening to Snoop Dogg "Gin
& Juice"... So they walked in on us and one of them said they would
pay us 5 bucks a piece if we rapped the song to them! My 1st thought was you'll
pay me to rap that to you!? I got paid that day and have been ever since!”
Growing up Cutty and his
family lacked the money others had. But it molded him and his music into what
it is now. “I went to schools where the kids were very rich
& materialistic. So that's what mattered... Popularity, how much money
do your people have, cars & clothes. I didn't have that. As a family we
were well taken care of and lived by our means! But I promised myself that
I'd get it by any means...I grew up wanting it all so that's what I rapped
about!”
Jay-Z is
Cutty’s favorite rap music artist and the artists he’d like to work with most.
“Because I feel the type of art I'd be able to create with his
musical genius there to help me paint my words on wax!! Boy, when I
say I picture myself reading Stories of Money... Making at least one
song with the Greatest is in one of the chapters!” When asked who
inspires Cutty, he
shouts out his team! “Currency Music Group as a whole! My team, Mysta J the
Titan & Mz. Prize especially, they keep me reaching for higher levels of
myself, right along with being incredible artists themselves. I know I'm
inspired to keep up with their musical minds and just that keeps me on a level
that makes music instead of noise!”
He has worked with some
awesome names; Lil Flip, Dj Unk, Crime Mob, Dem Franchize Boyz, Hurricane Chris, Bone Crusher, Mike Jones, Huey,
Coo Coo Cal, Do or Die, Tone Trump. One big name hes worked with is “Twista”. “I wouldn't say one is any bigger than the
others, Just at different stages in their careers. I'd say in my opinion "Twista" for the simple fact I respect his
hustle 100%. I came up from listening to his music daily to rockin the
same stage with him. That was cool pretty cool to me.”
Cutty would
like to remain independent, grow nationally and continue to make quality music.
He is a dedicated, amazing hip hop music artist who is not only a great music
artist but a great person. Cutty also has a great sense of humor and is always keeping me laughing.
When I asked him if he does anything besides rapping cutty says he
“Stays fly as fuck!” (lol) or when I asked his age he said “The same age as my music...
timeless!” His message to anyone trying to become a hip hop artist is,
